Jack Allen won't be lonely next weekend at the individual state wrestling championships in Champaign.

The Hinsdale Central junior heavyweight, last year's Class 3A 215-pound runner-up, will be joined by five teammates, exceeding the program's previous high of four state qualifiers.

Also qualifying six wrestlers at Saturday's Class 3A De La Salle sectional were Mount Carmel, Leyden and Oak Park. Brother Rice, St. Rita and Proviso West each had four qualifiers.

"It's going to be fun going down as a team instead of just with one or two guys," said Allen, who improved to 40-1 with a 7-4 win over De La Salle's James Buss. "We all owe a big thanks to our coaches."

Leading the Oak Park contingent will be defending Class 3A 130-pound champion Nick Dardanes. The senior was a 15-5 winner over Brother Rice's Luke Nelson at 140 pounds.

"I'm right where I want to be," Dardanes said after running his record to 41-1. "I can win by one point, but as long as I wrestle my match, that's fine with me."

Lane sophomore 145-pounder Max Schneider, last year's runner-up at 135, also appears to be peaking at the right time. He remained undefeated (36-0) with a first-period pin of Morton's David Chittick.

Oak Park was the only school with three champions. Sophomore Sam Brooks (160) and his older brother, Ben (189), joined Dardanes in the winner's circle.

St. Rita, Brother Rice and Leyden also had two winners each.

Sophomore Johnny Anderson (112) and junior Jahwon Akui (171) claimed the top spot for the Mustangs, while the junior duo of Mikey Avelar (135) and Malik Taylor (152) came through for the Crusaders. Avelar earned a 5-2 decision over Oak Park's Chris Dardanes in one of the day's featured matches.

Leyden's winners were junior Jesus Payan (103) and senior 215-pounder Dan Kiebler, who improved his record to 33-1 with an 11-3 triumph over Mather's Ameen Solebo
